We are super excited to announce our annual El Dia de los Ninos program will be Saturday, April 30th from 1-4 p.m. at the Fernley Branch Library. This is a family friendly event designed to celebrate our diverse community and early literacy. The Fernley Library is known for our spectacular special events held in conjunction with El Dia. This year we will be featuring a demonstration and workshop presented by Nevada folk artist Dolores Archuleta-Henderson in the Mexican Papel Picado tradition. Papel Picado is an intricate form of paper art that is commonly used in Dia de los Muertos celebrations in Mexico. This FREE workshop will be limited to 20 participants and subject to pre-registration. It is available for people of all ages and we encourage family participation. Mrs. Archuleta-Henderson is joining our event under sponsorship of the Nevada Arts Council.
Also to be featured at this year's event will be a live musical performance, traditional clowns, and free craft stations for children and families. Free food will be provided while supplies last. Weather permitting, this will be an outdoor event and open for all to attend. We will feature our Spanish and bilingual books and media that have been purchased with Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant funds which have been made available to us via the Nevada State Library and Archives.
