Opportunity is Just ONE CLICK AWAY @ the Fernley Branch Library!!

We are ecstatic to announce that the Fernley Branch Library has had 6 brand new public access computers installed!  These fast machines were made available to our community via the One Click Away... project grant funded by a federal stimulus monies for public computing centers, and is a partnership of the Nevada State Library and Archives (NSLA), Cooperative Libraries Automated Network (CLAN), Carson City Library, and Henderson District Public Libraries (HDPL).

By providing required matching (20%) funds CLAN received $191,115.00 of the project award of $808,000.00.  The monies purchased new public computers and peripherals for all CLAN public libraries! These much needed improvements to our public computer centers in CLAN libraries will ensure that the general public or specific vulnerable populations, such as low-income individuals, unemployed, seniors, children, minorities, and people with disabilities have access to broadband technology for personal enrichment and advancement.

We invite our community to come in and try out our new machines.  For years our library users have been relegated to utilizing slow and very out of date computer technology and subjected to very long waits for computer use -- those days are behind us!  With six well functioning brand new units you'll be able to achieve your goals.  Wait time has been further streamlined with the addition of new reservation software.

Let our staff know what you think of our new technology before you leave.  Your feedback is vital to ensuring that similar grant opportunities are available to us to help improve the quality of life for our residents and library users!

Adapt @ Your Library - Androids Comes to LYF

http://www.philipkdick.com/works_novels_androids.html
After a successful inaugural program month in February, we are excited to kick off our second month of the Adaptation Festival at the Fernley Branch Library!  This month we are reading Philp K. Dick's, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?  This classic novel in the Science Fiction genre was adapted to the 1982 Ridley Scott Film, Blade Runner, starring Harrison Ford.

Androids is set in the, now--not so far off, distant future year of 2021.  It features a text-book dystopian civilization that is constantly at odds between human and mechanical reality. Click here to visit the author's website for more information about the book.

We have copies available for those who wish to read this exciting novel.  Come join us on Friday, March 25 to  discuss what you thought of the story.  The book talk will be hosted at 2:30 p.m. at the Fernley Library.  Tuesday, March 29 at 2:30 p.m. join us at the library to watch Blade Runner, and stick around after to discuss what you thought about the film and the book it was adapted from.

We will be offering three more exciting adapted titles in future months for this program (see the list below).  Contact the Fernley Library for more information (775) 575-3366 or stop in to pick up your copy of the book today. We are located at 575 Silver Lace Blvd, Fernley, NV 89408 next door to City Hall.  This program has been made available to our community thanks in part to a Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the Nevada State Library and Archives (NSLA).

Upcoming Adaptation Festival Titles:
April:  The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
May:  Breakfast at Tiffany's by Truman Capote
June:  To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
